The Human Soul
What is a soul? Does it feel like us or is it part of our body? Does it has a definite shape or takes the shape the human body? What is its’ functions are? What does the soul consist of? The human soul is one of the mysteries of science that many people have been wondering about for thousands of years. Even I sometimes wonder what the soul looks like.
What is a soul is the first question anyone would ask him/herself but to answer this question it might take us years and years before we could reach to a definite conclusion. For me to reach such a conclusion I had to search many aspects about the soul, and was ultimately directed to different ways.
One was, a soul cannot consist of emotions, and/or feelings, since these consist of chemical reactions such as accelerated or retarded pulse rate, or even high temperatures that go on in the body, as a result to a stimulus. The stimuli could be seeing a horror movie, or remembering a joke or you first date.
To say a soul consist of chemical reactions would be completely unacceptable, and doubtful because a soul is invisible and it leaves the body as death occurs. To further, prove what I mean by we cannot say a soul is a chemical reaction, is because in my faith, the soul is said to leave the human body at two points.
One when we are asleep, which might explain why some people sleep and never wake up, and the second point, is when god wants that soul back which means this the time for this person to die. If the soul does leave the body during our sleep, then we can measure its’ weight as soon as the person wakes up.
During sleep, some people talk or even laugh. If the body is without a soul, then how could such things happen unless the human soul does not perform any of these things and hence we can conclude that the human soul has no function? Another point that would prove my belief is we feel discomfort and cold if a blanket did not cover us or something is underneath us during our sleep. During our sleep, chemical reactions occur releasing hormones and other chemical that aid sleep, a heart keeps on beating, this all proves that a soul has nothing to do with any chemical reactions that occur in the body.
Now I could see many question are making me wonder of whether or not the soul feels like us , what is the use of a soul, why we are said to have a soul, what benefit do we get from this soul, where is it located in the human body, and is there such thing as soul mates? Different people have different souls in which a person may meet another person and get the feeling that this person is his/her soul mate, which means they complete each other.
In other cases, people meet other people and get the feeling that they have known each other for a long time. Why do we get such feelings? Have our souls occupied a different or the same body in the past and has known the person that is why we get the feeling of knowing him/her from a long time ago.
If the soul has no genuine function then how could we say a soul feels unless we ask the soul? Nevertheless, a soul is said to have a form but whether it has a definite form or takes the form of the human body is unknown. Why I said that a soul has a form, well when a person dies, a person watches his/her soul leaving his eyes wide open as well as the eyes can only see something that has a form. Moreover, in my religion, the angels ascending with the soul are said to ask the soul who is this, which further proves that a soul has a distinct identity than the body.
Could the soul have an identity similar to ours that is why it was placed in that particular body, does the soul affect us by its distinctive identity or we affect it, does it grow with us since we get the soul since we are babies?
The only difference we have from animals is that we can reason but animals do not, does this mean this reasoning is the soul because if this were it then it would also be the same difference between a sleeping person, and an awake person. If this should be true, and that the soul has a weight then dying animals need not lose weight as they die, and human would get weight when they wake up.
Actually, a person is considered dead with the death of the brain. The heart could keep on pumping with the help of medical equipment but the brain is already dead. This concept has been challenged in recent years, because the upper part of the brain could be dead but still the lower part of the brain responsible for the respiration is alive, and hence according to this view death would be the loss of the capacity for consciousness or social interaction.
I was once told that there existed black magic, and black magic could be used to switch souls between bodies I know this might seem obscured, and I might be told that I watch too much T.V or believe in too much fantasies, and mysteries but I do believe in the existence of blue magic.
For us to know whether the soul does exist we could perform several examinations, and I have read about a doctor who performed several examinations to weigh the soul but the doctor’s methods were disproved for there were too many unwanted variables such as heat evaporation for the lungs as the person died.
My examination is about watching, and measuring any slight increase in the body weight of a sleeping person over time. The slight increases or decreases would have to be measured, and recorded, so that when that person is awake his body weight is recorded, and if the weight is of no significance then the human soul has no weight. Of course, other effects have to be eliminated such as the evaporation of air from the skin or the heat given off which could reduce body weight.
Is the personality part of the soul? If it is part of the soul then if, anyone tells you a bad word or hurt your feelings, your feelings is said to be hurt, then your soul is hurt. This hurt feeling may lead to depression that may further lead to crying. Why when anyone feels he/she is too depressed would get a feeling of suffocation and when he/she cries all that feeling of suffocation is gone? However, why do we go through this and is it the soul that causes us this feeling?
Moreover, if a woman was raped, for instance, she could have no total recall of this incident, and if she did then she will need to go to a psychiatrist to help her cope with this incident. Again, a psychiatrist is supposed to help you to go through what have happened to you because he/she sure can’t fix what happened .He/she could be said to fix your way of thinking, help your emotion back to normal state, make you unafraid of what might happen if you went out into the dark alone.
I guess for me to answer all those questions would need further experiments and investigation and since this is quite, a sensitive issue then it might be met with a lot of disapproval if any experiments were to be done. Besides, we really cannot isolate our souls from our bodies to ask them whether they feel or not can we.
The Human Memory
If I just wrote memory in this heading, it might have seemed quite misleading because it could have been the computer memory but actually, I am writing about the human memory. Human memory has fascinated a lot of scientists and thinkers how the human memory could keep all this information without losing all of it.
Sometimes when I am studying I think to myself am I going to be able to remember all those definitions and all those information that I am learning write now, won’t I lose them, what if I lost them what am I going to do? I studied but I lost them, and when I have finished my exam I look back at how the exam went and then I ask myself wow did I remember all those information; it is really beautiful, and fascinating.
How is the information stored and retrieved back for your use is just wonderful. The way the images, words, vowels and everything is stored makes you wonder how does this information get stored, in what way, what triggers the memory to store this information, it is our need to remember the information that triggers the brain to store, or how does it work.
I read several articles about how the memory works, and I came to know that for memory to store information, it needs a protein called calcitnine, and that information gets stored everywhere in the human body. Still the question of what triggers the information to be stored has not been answered.
As well as having, a memory that could remember everything this may not be an advantage after all because in some situations such as being taken as a hostage we get to remember things, we would like to forget about, and leave just behind us.
Actually, some people may find that forgetting is a bit infuriating but it is good, because sometimes we get to remember things that we may not need to use at all. Most of us were blessed with the advantage of forgetting but we could improve this by concentrating more on the subject that we really want to remember or even repeating it several times.
A world controlled by women
When I was in Egypt, I went into a store, and read this book about love and women. What got my attention, as I opened and read the book was a quote? I do not really remember what the quote said exactly but it could have been that if there were no men in the world, then women would be happy or if women ruled the world they would be happy.
Either way would we be happy with no men, I don’t know I really never thought about it but may be if I thought hard enough I would agree with this person for several reasons:
One would be: women would no longer be raped, because there will no longer be any man on earth but if there was men then rape may still be there but I think women would be the ones raping the men. How could this be? Because we are the dominant figure in this world.
Two: Equity would not be a problem for women in both worlds I guess because we get to rule but it might be an issue for men if they were there.
Third: If men were there, I do not know for how long they would tolerate being treated as inferiors or what they might do simply because they may overturn this ruling, and set themselves as the rulers.
Fourth: I guess it would be a little fun because we get to marry as much men as we want with no law banning this.
Fifth: I cannot say that lesbian and homosexuals would suddenly disappear, because in a world full of women only I would definitely say that the only way to have sex would be with another woman. However, in a world with women ruling men, the masculine side would find that the better way of not falling into the hands of an evil woman would be to fall in love with another man who would understand his feelings.
Sixth: In a world of women only, won’t we get bored of seeing only women? I do not know may be I am saying this because I know there are men.
Seventh: I guess women would be beaten less by men since there rules would be in favor of women, but another thing may be seem to arise which is stronger women may start to rule the world, and poor weak women would have to follow in their lead. Another thing in relationships between women would be stronger women may beat weaker women.
This is really getting ridiculous but I think that before we could say anything is better than another, we should take a look at it pros and cons. I do not say that the person who wrote that quote was wrong; she had her point of view, which is different from mine.
I would prefer to stay in a world where equity is there for both the sexes but since this cannot be achieved, then a world ruled by women would be another good place to stay in especially if we get to marry a lot of men. Just kidding.
Unknown tribes
I read a national geographic magazine that writes about many things but every now and then they write about different tribes or places where people live unaware of what is going on in the world . In other words, they live without television, clothes, even their marriage rituals has something of a myth in it.
When I first read the article, I felt sorry for those people who are not living the way we are living. We live in a much better world with everything there for us, you open the television we get to know about what is going on in other parts of the world, but they are not.
It came into my mind they do not need a television, simply because they do not know about it, they are happy like that. We created our need for the television, plus as countries develop and have relations with each other you need to know if your stock is doing well in the market or if your family is doing well and there is no war where you left you family and went in another country to work.
They are lucky they do not have to strive for work to bring in money. They could live up to many years like 100 years old since they don’t go under any work stress, no air or noise pollution but disease could be the only factor that might cause their mortality rate to be like us.
The bad news is with too many wars, and nation fighting those places could no longer exist due to bombing. Another factor would be with too much population increase then woodland would be needed for more houses to be built this could mean they have to move to the countryside and there will no longer be able to live the way they used to.
What is being done to them is awful because they need to go and discover the world when they are ready and want to do that but not by being forced. In addition, they need to preserve their own rituals to be able to tell it to their grandchildren. It is as if the history is repeating itself what is been done to them happened a long time ago to aboriginal people and now only few numbers have survived.
I think governments need to think twice about what they are doing because at then end those are human beings and they may end up as more valuable assets then expected.
Forgetting your keys
To forget your keys is a very big deal, because if you left them anywhere you might end up being robbed or even murdered. Sometimes you are lucky, and you remember right away but sometimes you are not, and this is when the bad situation starts. It is part of our fault in forgetting our keys because we tend not to concentrate where we placed them but we really should concentrate even if we were very busy.
On the other hand, manufacturers should think in a way of helping people isn’t business is about figuring out what are the consumers needs. Well they could put
A few days ago, I saw a person trying to unlock his door car through the closed window I guess because he left the keys inside. It took the person at least 25 to 30 minutes to unlock the car door with a wire extended through a small opening in the window. This is really awful I thought to myself.
Imagine what this person could have done in those 30 minutes, he must have been irritated by then. Suppose he needed to go quickly because he had an emergency or needed to get back to his work, in this way he could be losing time, which is not in his favor.
May be you can imagine yourself having an emergency and running quickly to help, and you forgot your keys inside the car won’t you get irritated, Well most of us don’t forget their car keys in an emergency but some do due to reactions to any emergent situation.
I thought if manufacturers are going to help then they could put an eye scanning lock in the car. How could this work .well, when you forget your keys then you could click on a button on the car door from the outside that will automatically open a box inside the car, which will scan your eye through the window, and if you are the one then the car is unlocked automatically. I think this might be of help.
I can‘t say a voice lock because this could mean a risk of cold may not let the car unlock itself plus you will let people know what is your voice code, and unlock it with a recording cassette after recording your voice.
The way I just said about eye scanning can be quite safe because no one could steal your eye from you unless he kills you first, and you can never forget your eye anywhere. Moreover, if it happens that you forget your keys you still know you can open your car easily with the eye scanning lock machines installed in your car.
Identical Twins
It is amazing to see how identical twins can have the same DNA but differ slightly in their behaviors, and even their fingerprints. An identical twin is supposed to be the same as his/her partner but when it comes to fingerprints they are not the same they are different. How could this happen?
If they were fraternal twins I would say ok they are from different ova’s, and they should be different but what if they are from the same ova then how could this happen. I think this is a miracle in itself because why would a person with the same DNA differ in anything. They should have the same reactions when placed in similar situations, and they really do but why when it came to fingerprints, they were different?
I did some research and I found out that the differences in the fingerprints of the twins were due “to the interaction of the individual’s genes and the developmental environment in the uterus? In the case of fingerprints, the genes determine the general characteristics of the patterns that are used for fingerprint classification. As the skin on the fingertip differentiates, it expresses these general characteristics. However, as a surface tissue, it is also in contact with the amniotic fluid in the uterus.
The fingertips are also in contact with other parts of the fetus and the uterus, and their position in relation to uterus and the fetal body changes as the fetus moves on its own and in response to positional changes of the mother. Thus, the microenvironment of the growing cells on the fingertip is in flux, and is always slightly different from hand to hand and finger to finger. It is this microenvironment that determines the fine detail of the fingerprint structure. While the differences in the microenvironment between fingers are small and subtle, their effect is amplified by the differentiating cells and produces the macroscopic differences that enable the fingerprints of twins to be differentiated.
More generally, the environment in the uterus affects the phenotypic development of all parts of the twin fetuses. Thus, despite an identical DNA structure of the two fetuses, a very careful examination of other physical characteristics will show that twins are systematically different, although those differences may be too subtle to detect without careful measurement. This process of differential development continues throughout life. As twins age, they diverge more and more, and in middle and old age will look more like non-identical twins”.( quoted By Edward P. This is amazing, and it is only due to this small difference that causes the fingerprints of two identical twins that have the same DNA to be different. Identical twins have the exact DNA that even the mortality age of (identical twins) MZ is approximately the same, whereas DZ (fraternal twins) age would differ, choose similar life partner( I mean husbands if the twins were women, and wives if the twins were men) that is to say similar in personality, & show the same political and religious preference.
Nevertheless, why didn’t God create the identical twins having the same fingerprints, and just made one born with a scar that differentiates him/her than her identical twin? I guess God did this to make it easier for humanity when applying justice because he does not like to see a good person suffer for another person.
If this was not the case then we would be in deep trouble, and we would have to work very hard just to know which one of the them really did it. If any one of the two identical twins were a murderer or robber then the innocent one could face criminal charges, while the other is still enjoying his freedom. However, it could be the other way round, they did catch the right one but with little convincing he/she could let go off the hook, and the other person is charged. This is really awful just imagining yourself having a bad twin, and facing criminal charges with what your twin did, and there is no way you could disprove that unless you had a differential scar that recognizes you would be really unpleasant.
Actually, it could be kind of fun to be able to share secrets with your bother/sister, and you both look alike, and if someone mistaken between you with your sister it will look cute. I wonder why some people hate to have alike brothers/sisters I guess because they feel they are not being noticed enough, or may be their sister or brother is taking all the notice thus they hate their brothers/sisters. It could also be that the sister/brother is not a good person in that case; I really do not blame them for hating their brothers/sisters. I would like to have an image sister of me and see what they peoples’ reaction would be to both of us.
Current Event Paper
In the Acquinian, I read an article that was written about Dante’s Divine Comedy. I immediately remembered the divine comedy that I have read. I t was so well written that it could take you to the places which Dante described, and you could feel the feelings that Dante felt when he was passing through the gates of hell, and paradise.
All this started when he knew of his sweet love’s death, the way it affected him to produce a master piece like this does show how much he was affected by this girl, and the way he loved her was so pure and innocent. The first time he loved her was when he was nine years old, he probably saw her couple more times. The second time as I remember was in her wedding gown where she saw him with another girl, and got angry. After a few years of her marriage she died. This made Dante hate his life, and enclosed himself that he even got ill.
Nevertheless, he managed to write this beautiful comedy. As much as it shows how he longed to be with his love, it also showed what he thought of the world around him such as he hated prostitutes and greedy people that showed them in lower levels of hell, some of his rivals were in paradise. He imagined himself being taken through the levels of hell by the hand of a friend I guess this is because he thought of him as a mentor as well as trusted him more than anyone else.
I liked the Divine Comedy except for the fact that he considered Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) would be in hell too which I didn’t like much but for the rest of the Divine Comedy it really was the same as we think hell and Paradise would be in my faith too. I read the Divine Comedy twice, and if I found it, once again I would read it a third time.
